Themba Zwane, the seasoned midfielder and captain of Mamelodi Sundowns, recently disclosed that Orlando Pirates had expressed interest in signing him prior to his move to the Brazilians.
Zwane, who has accumulated over 450 appearances for Sundowns and clinched 18 trophies during his illustrious career, reflected on the circumstances that led him to join the Tshwane giants instead of Orlando Pirates.
Recalling the pivotal moment, Zwane shared how the offer from Sundowns came about unexpectedly after a national U23 camp, where he got the call from the club's representative, Sinky Mnisi.
Despite learning later about Pirates' interest, Zwane was content with his decision to sign for Sundowns, a move that has seen him become a key figure in the team over the years.
Had Zwane opted for Pirates, he would have entered a midfield battle with the likes of Oupa Manyisa and Andile Jali during their successful spell, raising questions about how his career path might have differed if he had taken another route.
