The 2027 South African Open will once again provide a valuable opportunity for golfers to secure coveted invites to The Open and the Masters, reaffirming its status as a key event in the global golfing calendar.
In an exciting development for South African golf, the major exemptions for the winners have been officially confirmed by the Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour in partnership with The R&A and Augusta National Golf Club.
Taking place at Stellenbosch Golf Club from 4 to 7 March 2027, the 116th edition of the South African Open will determine who qualifies for the upcoming majors. The top three finishers, not already exempt, will earn a spot at The Open in St Andrews in 2027, while the champion will secure a place at the prestigious Masters tournament.
Sunshine Tour Commissioner, Thomas Abt, expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by the exemptions, emphasizing the South African Open's role in nurturing talent and creating significant economic impact for the country.
Tickets for the 2027 South African Open are set to go on sale from 7 October 2026, with high demand anticipated following a successful and sold-out edition of the tournament in the previous year.
