The 2027 South African Open holds a special place in golf, as it serves as a crucial qualifier for two of the sport's most revered majors - The Open and The Masters.
Organized in partnership with The R&A and Augusta National Golf Club, the South African Open will take place at Stellenbosch Golf Club from 4 to 7 March 2027.
Participants who finish in the top three at the South African Open, excluding those already exempt, will secure a spot in The Open at St Andrews in 2027, while the winner earns a coveted invitation to The Masters.
Expressing gratitude for these major exemptions, Thomas Abt, Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour, emphasized the importance of the South African Open as a platform for emerging talents, citing the success story of young golfer Casey Jarvis.
With increased prize money now at million, the 2027 edition of the South African Open promises high stakes and intense competition, with tickets set to go on sale from 7 October 2026.
The tournament's impact goes beyond the greens, contributing significantly to the local economy and showcasing the rising talent within South African golf.
