The South African Jockey Academy (SAJA) in Summerveld receives a major infrastructure upgrade funded by the Hollywood Group and Hollywood Foundation, initiating a significant revitalization effort for the horse racing industry.
The project, led by SAJA's chief operating officer Tarryn Mason, aims to provide a modern and supportive environment for young jockeys, emphasizing education, horsemanship skills, and professional development.
The first phase of the upgrade introduces improvements to the international and female apprentice dormitories, with plans for further enhancements in subsequent phases, forming part of a larger R500-million investment in KwaZulu-Natal horse racing.
The project not only benefits the academy and its students but also creates job opportunities and stimulates economic activity in the local community, with multiple contractors and subcontractors involved in the renovation.
The Hollywood Foundation's commitment extends beyond infrastructure upgrades, offering full bursaries to disadvantaged apprentices to pursue their dreams of becoming professional jockeys while supporting diversity within the industry.
With the academy serving as a key institution for jockey training, it has produced successful riders who have achieved victories worldwide, highlighting the impact of investing in the future of horse racing.
