Legendary mare Winx's first surviving foal, Quinceanera, was retired without racing on veterinary advice. The filly, sold for a record R115 million, was set to make a competitive debut but will now focus on breeding.
Sired by leading stallion Pierro, Quinceanera was anticipated to follow in her mother's footsteps. Despite initial high hopes for her racing career, a decision was made to retire her as a broodmare.
Woppitt Bloodstock confirmed the retirement decision, stating that it was made in consultation with trainer Chris Waller. Having achieved remarkable success in her racing days, Winx's legacy continues with her offspring, despite Quinceanera not stepping onto the track.
Winx, celebrated as the world's top-rated turf horse during her unbeaten streak, amassed an impressive record before retiring in 2019. The decision to retire Quinceanera mirrors the desire to uphold her mother's esteemed lineage and potential.
Despite the disappointment of Quinceanera never racing, her future as a broodmare offers an opportunity to contribute to the sport through breeding endeavors. With a notable pedigree and a legacy to uphold, the foal's story takes an unexpected turn on the path to racing glory.
