South Africa's plans to host a Formula One Grand Prix have been pushed back to 2028 or 2029 after underestimating the requirements. The preferred venue for the event remains the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

South African Formula One fans will have to wait longer for the sport to return to local soil as the country underestimated the preparations needed for staging a grand prix.

Initial expectations pointed to 2027 for the event's return, but plans have been delayed as the country acknowledged the requirements were underestimated.

The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit is the favored venue for the potential Formula One race, with efforts underway to attain FIA Grade 1 certification for the circuit.
